White House Security Coordinator Howard Schmidt announced today the formation of a National Program Office to oversee the administration’s national strategy for trusted identities in cyberspace. The office will coordinate with industry to create an online environment in which sensitive transactions are less risky.
Schmidt says that the partnership between the government and the private sector will be crucial to the development of a more secure internet. While the government will provide leadership, coordination and collaboration, it needs industry to innovate and implement new technologies. Schmidt says the new office will take a close look at how to make that relationship more productive.
