The National Geospatial-lntelligence Agency has welcomed its first wave of employees at its new facility in Fort Belvoir, according to the AFCEA website.

About 300 people reported to work at NGA Campus East yesterday. They’re the first of 38 groups that will move in between now and September 15th. That’s when they’ll have their official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

It’s a 2.4 million square foot campus – and it’s about 85 percent complete. It cost about 1.7 billion dollars to build.

It’ll eventually house 85,000 workers. They’re bringing in people from six sites that were consolidated by the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission in 2005.

One of the cool things Signal Scape mentions about their computer systems in the new building – it allows their workers to sit down at any computer and bring up their desktop – and even their program settings – regardless of where their home station is.
