After e-gov cuts, Sunlight launches Save the Data program
The Sunlight Foundation is creating the Save the Data to fight cuts to open government websites.
The administration’s e-government fund has taken a big hit. The 2011 budget compromise included a 76 percent cut in funds to operate open government web sites such as Data.gov, USAspending.gov and the IT Dashboard.
Congress and the White House agreed to eight million dollars this year. That’s down from $34 million in fiscal 2010.
But the Sunlight Foundation isn’t giving up. They’ve launched the Save the Data program aimed at keeping transparency programs alive in the government. Daniel Schuman is the policy counsel at the Sunlight Foundation.
