Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) will replace Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) as the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in 2015, the most contested House position for the 114th Congress.
“The faith placed in me by my colleagues today is a tremendous honor and privilege. I am fully committed to taking on difficult tasks that a chairmanship requires,” Chaffetz said in a statement on Tuesday.
As chair of Oversight’s subcommittee on national security, Chaffetz led investigations into recent security breaches at the White House, which led to the resignation of Secret Service Director Julia Pierson.
Issa, having met his term limit as committee chair, congratulated his replacement.
“Congressman Chaffetz is a valued colleague and demonstrated leader who will continue the work of the Oversight Committee in the next Congress,” Issa said
