On this week’s edition of On DoD, we take a deep-dive into DoD’s small business program.
Last month, the Small Business Administration announced that for a second year in a row, the federal government met its small business contracting goals for the second time in two years – that’s after having missed the mark for seven straight years in a row. A lot of agencies have a lot to brag about when it comes to finally meeting that goal, but the Defense department is responsible for about two thirds of all the federal contracting funds that go to small businesses.
This week’s guests describe the several years of work that had to be done in order to meet DoD’s own small business contracting goals. Andre Gudger did a lot of the heavy lifting over the past four years as the director of DoD’s office of small business programs; he’s since been promoted to the job of assistant secretary of defense for manufacturing and industrial base policy. Kenyata Wesley is the current DoD small business chief. They spoke with Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu at the Pentagon.
