You may have heard that Postmaster General John Potter told the Senate Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services, and International Security that the US Postal Service is in dire financial condition, and wants the option of cutting delivery to five days a week. General Potter testified at a subcommittee hearing yesterday, along with Postal Regulatory Commission Chairman Dan Blair and the GAO’s Director of Infrastructure Issues, Phillip Herr.

First Time Witness from the CBO

Another Senate hearing yesterday dealt with the current fiscal situation. The Senate Budget Committee heard testimony from new Congressional Budget Office Director Dr. Douglas Elmendorf; it was his first congressional testimony since taking over at the CBO. The hearing was called “Federal Response to the Housing and Financial Crisis.”
