Cyber attacks on federal computer networks are up 40 percent, according to US-CERT.

Cyber attacks on critical infrastructure have the potential to paralyze government and industry, and impact the nation’s economy.

A panel of cyber security experts talked about efforts to prevent cyber attacks and enhance cyber security.

They spoke at an event hosted by AFCEA Bethesda.

The panel moderator was Norman Montgomery, Executive Vice President of the National Interest Security Company.

The panelists were Jenny Menna, Acting Director of Critical Infrastructure Cyber Protection and Awareness & Acting Director of Global Cyber Security Management in the National Cyber Security Division of the Department of Homeland Security; Gary Galloway, Deputy Director of the Office of Information Assurance at the State Department; James Meehan, Special Agent in Charge at the Secret Service; and Howard Cox, assistant deputy chief of the computer crime and intellectual property section of the criminal division at the Justice Department.
