Supply chain management is far from a haphazard system of getting certain things to certain places at certain times.

It requires a keen strategy. When picking a company for a supply-chain management contract, federal agencies need to make sure the contractor can integrate multiple systems, manage inventory levels and help reduce cost.

SAIC, a major contracting player, was awarded last week a supply-chain management contract by the Defense Logistics to provide land and aircraft tires.

San Giacomo discussed what managing a supply chain consists of and provided more information about the SAIC contract.
