Today is Tara O’Toole’s last day as undersecretary of science and technology at the Homeland Security Department. During her time at DHS she helped the Science and Technology directorate survive a 53 percent budget reduction and even helped persuade Congress to reverse those cuts in fiscal 2012. She tells Federal News Radio’s Sean McCalley the trick to getting a budget back is teaching employees how to market their own work.
