Ready to Serve Sgt. Monica Southall, an Army veteran from Henrico, Virginia, prepares to serve during the Nov. 20, 2014, Joint Services Sitting Volleyball Tournament at the Pentagon Athletic Center in Washington, D.C.
Southall founded the sitting volleyball program for wounded and ill patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. During a subsequent deployment, she was wounded. After returning home, she learned firsthand the power of adaptive reconditioning activities in helping wounded warriors in recovery.
