Ahead of Tuesday’s parade in celebration of the Washington Capitals’ Stanley Cup victory, the Office of Personnel Management has some broad guidance for federal employees in the Washington, D.C. area.
Federal agencies in Washington will remain open on Tuesday. But the White House is encouraging agencies to grant their employees in the area two hours of administrative leave between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to attend the parade.
To help alleviate congestion on the roads and public transportation, agencies may authorize telework or other workplace flexibilities at their own discretion, OPM said. Employees can also ask to use their alternative work schedule day off, annual leave or other authorized time off to attend the parade.
“Due to the increase in traffic, road closures, and related commuting disruptions, federal employees who work in downtown D.C. should be prepared for the possibility of significant commuting delays and travel restrictions,” OPM Director Jeff Pon said Tuesday in a memo to chief human capital officers. “These employees should allow extra time for travel to and from work whether by private vehicle or public transportation.”
OPM also encouraged agencies to use any and all communication tools they have in place to provide more specific guidance to their employees ahead of Tuesday’s victory parade.
WTOP, Federal News Radio’s sister station, has a guide for Tuesday’s parade, which includes a map of the route, street closures, parking restrictions and public transportation advice. View that guide here.
