Technology is not going to slow down, so at DISA one of the top objectives is to find a way not to fall behind. For Garing that means finding a way to speed up an IT process that is too closely tied to bringing weapon systems online, which can take years. Garing says, first, DISA has adopted an ABC approach — Adopt before you Buy and Buy before you Create. Second, he says it has given up the mindset that all IT solutions have to be 100% effective. Finally, Garing says DISA is taking a close look at how IT is done in the private sector, at companies like Google, and not just at the ways in which those companies get products to the market as quickly as possible.
