Department of Energy Chief Information Officer Tom Pyke describes himself as a man who is rarely lost for words even after more than three decades in government. At the Department of Energy, he oversees an annual IT budget of more than two-BILLION-dollars. He says the key to making the most of that money is to ensure that the right IT is in the right place at the right time. A large part of that effort involves going green, pursuing solar panels and even fuel cells to power the department’s IT initiatives. Pyke says green is also a big reason why DOE wants to deploy “thin client” technology at its headquarters within the next six months, something he believes will also make DOE more secure.
