To modernize and keep an agency running requires a good roadmap. For Ash, laying out that roadmap was just part of the challenge. The other was to help make sure IT did not fall by the wayside with the need to emphasize physical security following the September 11th attacks on the Pentagon and the Twin Towers. He also talks about how IT is helping the NRC with a new wave of applications for nuclear power plants and about the way IT has addressed some of the concerns after GAO investigators were able to get a license to purchase enough radioactive materials to manufacture a dirty bomb in 2006.
