Congress is in charge of the purse strings, so making sure your agency feeds lawmakers accurate information could mean the difference between a budget blessing and a budget ax.

Pam Turner, managing director at the Prime Policy Group, said most inquiries from the Hill to federal agencies go through the agency’s office of legislative affairs.

If you receive a call from the Hill, it’s important to make sure you’re the right person to speak to, she said in an interview with The Federal Drive with Tom Temin.

“Whatever you tell the Hill could end up in some senator’s floor statement the next day or a House member’s press report the next evening,” she said. “So you have to make absolute sure that the information you’re giving the Hill is accurate and complete.”
