Wired reports that the Navy wants businesses to produce an app that stimulates sailors\' minds.
The Navy wants to literally grow sailors’ brains with an iPhone app, Wired reports.
A brain fitness training program would sharpen sailors’ cognitive skills and improve working memory attention, language processing and decision-making.
Adult brain cells expand and contract in response to stimuli, a process known as neuroplasticity, and the Navy wants to actually see brain tissue growth.
“Growth” in this context actually means a faster brain, where synapses fire electrical impulses more rapidly in response to stimuli.
For such a tool to work requires a “ultramobile platform” like an iPhone or a netbook, Wired reports.
This brain growth could help troops recover from traumatic brain injury and make more alert active soldiers.
