The National Institute of Standards and Technology has unveiled a draft of its strategic plan, “Building a Digital Nation,” which aims to boost national cybersecurity education — and now it wants your thoughts.

The plan, part of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education program – known as NICE – is the cornerstone of a larger national campaign to increase cyber awareness and training at all levels.

Ernest McDuffie oversees the initiative, which sees about $18 million in funding and helps coordinates cyber efforts at the Defense Department, Homeland Security, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Office of Personnel Management.

He joined the Federal Drive to talk about the initiative’s latest developments as well as what kind of comments the group is looking for.

NIST will take public comments on the plan through Sept. 12. The agency is also hosting a workshop, “Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity Education – Engaging Americans in Securing Cyberspace,” scheduled for Sept. 20-22 at the NIST campus in Gaithersburg, Md.
