The Defense Department’s chief information officer should have more power, according to the independent Defense Business Board. The group of private-sector executives say the agency’s CIO needs greater authority over their counterparts in the military, especially when it comes to setting and enforcing policies on data-center consolidation and cloud computing. It also says the agency should set deadlines for consolidating those data centers, streamline procurement and consider incentive and reward programs. Federal Times reports, the board sent its recommendations to Defense leaders.
