Congress wants the Department of Defense to change its cloud security requirements in order to make them more vendor-friendly. Congressmen Derek Kilmer (D-Wa.) and Niki Tsongas (D-Ma.) are proposing the Defense Cloud Security Act to clarify its requirements and offer more opportunities for vendors to meet those standards. Nextgov reports the bill would also require the Pentagon to study cloud best practices in both the public and private sector and adopt them. DoD would also have to study commercial cloud computing technologies to find ways to save money and still meet its security requirements. So far four different companies managed to win cloud contracts with the Pentagon. Amazon Web Services earned a contract award in March to provide cloud services to military and civilian defense agencies for unclassified data.
