Guard units provide relief for Hurricane Matthew victims
National Guard units were activated in several East Coast states over the weekend to help with the relief effort in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
U.S. Soldiers with the 1-178th Field Artillery Battalion, South Carolina National Guard, help escort Horry County Fire Rescue paramedics through flooded roads to reach someone in need of medical attention in Conway, South Carolina, during Hurricane Matthew, Oct. 8, 2016. South Carolina National Guard soldiers and airmen were activated Oct. 4, 2016 in support of state and county emergency management agencies and local first responders with coastal evacuations and any services or resources needed to assist the citizens of South Carolina after Gov. Nikki Haley declared a State of Emergency.
