Daniel Patt developed a system that allows military personnel on the ground to efficiently and quickly communicate and share intelligence with pilots using an electronic component compatible with most aircraft and an Android tablet. The system, designed to improve accuracy in airstrikes by providing more intelligence to pilots, also has been adopted by federal law enforcement and firefighters.
“His idea was to give the guys in the cockpit and the guys on the ground the same situational picture using commercial technology,” said Steve Walker, DARPA’s deputy director. “He brings together security, encryption and workable technology.”
