NASA celebrated its 60th anniversary Monday, while feds and fans alike took to social media to show their appreciation for the space agency. It was formed after the Soviet Union’s 1957 launch of the Sputnik satellite, though the United States’ interest in spaceflight dates to the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics. NACA was formed March 3, 1915, as an independent government agency reporting directly to the Executive Office of the President.
