The Defense Department has grown its acquisition work force by 26,000 over the last few years. But it's not enough, according to the Government Accountability Office. Auditors found six of the 13 acquisition career fields didn't meet growth goals. Tim DiNapoli, director of Acquisition and Sourcing Management at GAO, spoke with Federal News Radio's Eric White about the DOD's workforce issues on Federal Drive with Tom Temin.

Budget uncertainty has been the norm for most federal agencies for several years in a row now. But the Federal Aviation Administration has suffered more than most. Long before the days of sequestration, the FAA had already gone through several years of short-term agency reauthorizations that kept its funding and programmatic priorities largely in limbo. Congress asked the Government Accountablity Office to examine the FAA's budget and how to add some predictability to the mix, and GAO has now reported back. Backlogs seem to be the bane of the government's existence. Now a new backlog has emerged; applications for asylum in the United States. Applications have doubled over the past five years, and now the backlog stands at more than 100,000. Those findings are the findings of a new report from the Government Accountability Office. The federal government has designated 15 private sector industries as being or operating critical infrastructure. Each one has a corresponding federal agency with whom that industry shares cybersecurity threat information.
