Move over Facebook and Twitter, there’s a new social media competitor making its way through the federal government.
Government Computer News reports that nearly 20 departments and dozens of agencies are using Foursquare, a location-based social networking Web site. Foursquare allows users to connect with friends, update their location and get points for “checking in” at certain venues — all by mobile device.
For example, fresh cookies in the cafeteria at the Treasury Department and the chilly temperature inside VA headquarters were just a few of the tips shared by Foursquare members, GCN reports.
As of Aug. 24, the Transportation Department has logged the most check-ins among federal departments with 767. A close second is the Labor Department with 722, and a distant third is the State Department with 552.
