OPM starts digitizing employee records

The Office of Personnel Management has started scanning employee records so that one day pensions can be calculated by computer.
The Federal Times reports that about three dozen OPM retirement staffers are “digitizing records in an abandoned limestone mine in Boyers, Pa., to keep up with the impending retirements.”
Bill Zielinski, OPM’s associate director of retirement services, told Federal Times the initiative will be a “mammoth effort.”
According to the article, OPM is currently scanning up to 7,500 cases a day and have 119,000 cabinet drawers to go.
