Security is one of the highest priorities for today’s government agencies as cyber-security threats rise and become increasingly sophisticated. While many IT and agency department heads feel increasing concern and pressure around security breaches and privacy, FedRAMP and key compliance mandates are driving greater standards within the industry. In our second panel discussion, Reducing Risk in the Cloud, we’ll discuss how a trusted cloud platform can help government agencies meet today’s demands—from certification to privacy and security mandates—and also evolve to address future needs.

Tom Temin, Federal News Radio
Tom Temin is the host of Federal Drive, airing weekdays from 6-9 a.m. on Federal News Radio 1500AM. Tom Temin has 30 years’ experience in journalism, mostly in technology markets. He was a long-serving editor-in-chief of Government Computer News and Washington Technology magazines, both of which were regular winners of national reporting awards. Before joining Federal News Radio, Tom wrote (and continues to write) a column on government IT and acquisition topics. He was a regular guest on Federal News Radio before joining the team.

Gary Barlet, Chief Information Officer, USPS OIG
Gary Barlet retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel on November 1st, 2012 where he spent 20 years as a Communications System Officer focused primarily on deployed communications and network operations. He has been part of multiple deployments, stationed both in CONUS and overseas. He spent his last 6 years assigned to the Pentagon serving on the staff of the HQ United States Air Force and then the Air National Guard CIO. Mr. Barlet is currently serving as the CIO for the Office of the Inspector General for the United States Postal Service and has been in the post since October 2012.
Steve Hernandez, Chief Information Security Officer, Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Steven Hernandez is the chief information security officer for the Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). His varied background in information assurance includes work for international heavy manufacturing, large finance organizations, academia, and government agencies. Mr. Hernandez is an expert in risk management, information security return on investment, cloud computing security, FISMA, and the implications of privacy in electronic commerce.
Melinda Rogers, Chief Information Security Officer, Department of Justice
Melinda Rogers is Chief Information Security Officer at the Department of Justice in the Office of the Chief Information Officer. In this role she leads a staff of IT security specialists providing security operations monitoring and incident management, certification and accreditation oversight, as well as the Information Systems Security Line of Business team supporting the Cyber Security Assessment and Management solution. She is also responsible for ensuring the Department’s policies and standards align with Federal Information Security Management Act requirements and various applicable federal mandates. Prior to DOJ, Melinda served as Assistant Vice President for Equifax’s Fraud Prevention and Identity Verification Solutions.
Mark Williams, Chief Security Officer, Microsoft Federal
Mr. Mark Williams is a recognized security expert with over 20 years of industry experience. As Chief Security Officer of Microsoft Federal, Mr. Williams is the preeminent thought leader for security and compliance strategy across the Microsoft portfolio within the Federal market. Previously, Mr. Williams served as Director of Security for Microsoft Online Services, overseeing end to end security for Microsoft’s cloud services including: Exchange Online, SharePoint, LiveMeeting, and Office 365. Prior to joining Microsoft, Mr. Williams held security leadership roles at CMS Energy and iDEFENSE. Mr. Williams is a published author and frequent speaker at industry events.
