Commerce needs help managing the Internet

Group tries to build trust in cyberspace, Thumbs up for cyber coordination

Washington Post reports the government is looking to update its approach to online commerce for the first time since 1997. However, critics say rules can’t keep pace with technology, and suggest more time be spent on education and creating better software.

Without trust, there can be no effective online government, nor online anything else. And without strong cyber security, you can’t have trust. White House cyber coordinator Howard Schmidt says using secure identity cards and working more closely with industry among his top short term priorities. He says a new strategy to secure online transactions also is on track for the President’s signature this fall. And he’s closely watching Capitol Hill as Senate lawmakers may be close to completing draft of consolidated cyber bill.
