Conficker confounds federal computers too

When it comes to Conficker, what are the lessons learned and how can the public and private sectors work together to defeat it? We ask Neustar\'s Rod Joffe.

The Conficker Worm first showed up in 2008. It targeted Windows operating systems, and used malware techniques to take over machines and turn them into zombie computers. As of today, experts believe 10 million home, business and government computers are under its control. It is believed to be one of the largest computer infections of the decade. The threat was so serious that Microsoft and ICANN offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Conficker’s authors. They are still at large. Rodney Joffe, the Senior Vice President and Senior Technologist at Neustar, explains why this threat is so hard to pin down.
