The IBM Center for the Business of Government is now offering two books and a blog for people who are moving into the government from the outside. The Center’s Executive Director, Jonathan Breul, told me about these resources.

Info Sharing 101

Successful information sharing is always a partnership between the sharers. One high-profile example of two agencies collaborating to open the info flow is the work of the Pentagon and VA to share access to patient medical records. We learned about the DoD end of that partnership from Dr. Stephen Jones, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, and Chuck Campbell, the Pentagon’s Chief Information Officer for the Military Health System.

Retirement Woes & Solutions

Keeping the Foreign Service Healthy

The State Department says they’ve filled their needs for diplomats to go to Iraq and Afghanistan for 2009, but there are still workforce challenges in the diplomatic corps. The President of the American Foreign Service Association, John Naland, talked about those challenges, including pay differentials, language training, and building a career in foreign service.
