When the legislative branch is investigating an agency within the executive branch, leaders of said agency may not be too pleased as you can imagine. They may attempt to stymie the investigation, even if that means bringing criminal charges against congressional investigative staff for finding something they shouldn’t have. That’s what happened to Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s staff according to him. The two term Democrat spoke with Federal News Radio’s Eric White to tell the story of what happened and why he thinks there needs to be a law protecting congressional staff members who are conducting an investigation on executive agencies.
