The migration to Windows Vista in the Federal market has been slow, and Microsoft is already close to releasing Vista’s successor, Windows 7. The National Institute of Standards and Technology is looking at Windows 7 from a number of directions, not least of which is the Federal Desktop Core Configuration. Stephen Quinn, a computer scientist at NIST, filled me in on the security and interoperability aspects of Windows 7, and what it means for agencies.
