President nominates Werfel to be OMB controller
He also nominates new CPSC commissioner and chairwoman of Merit Systems Protection Board.

President Barack Obama yesterday nominated Daniel Werfel as the new controller of the Office of Management and Budget.
Werfel has been acting controller on and off since March 2006 when he first became deputy controller. Previously, he also was the chief of OMB’s Financial Integrity and Analysis Branch, an OMB budget examiner, and a policy analyst in OMB’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.
Along with Werfel, the President nominated Frank Kendall to be the Defense Department’s deputy under secretary for acquisition and technology, Susan Tsui Grundmann to be the chairwoman of the Merit Systems Protection Board and former U.S. Representative Anne Northup to be commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The President also nominated Anne Wagner to be a member of the Merit Systems Protection Board and its vice chairwoman.
The Senate must confirm all of these positions.
Werfel would take over as controller when there is tremendous pressure on the federal budget. Among his top priorities likely would be to continue to reduce improper payments, develop policies to oversee the Recovery Act and to oversee the Chief Financial Officer’s Council
Kendall currently is a managing partner at Renaissance Strategic Advisors, an aerospace and defense sector consulting firm. He has more than 35 years in engineering, management, defense acquisition and national security affairs in the private industry, government and the military, the White House states in a release.
Grundmann would come to the Merit Systems Protection Board after spending seven years as the general counsel to the National Federation of Federal Employees.
Northup represented Kentucky in the House from 1997 to 2006 where she sat on the Appropriations Committee, the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education; Transportation, Treasury, HUD and Independent Agencies; and Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs subcommittees. She also has advocated for education reform during her time in Congress.
