Defense funding update

It\'s possible Congress could revisit the Don\'t Ask issue in a lame-duck session, but that is also uncertain.

The Defense Department will need to wait for its 2011 authorization bill. The Senate has failed to get the votes necessary to move forward with debate. The move yesterday by Republicans to block debate also prevented passage of several amendments to the bill, including one that would end the the ban on gays serving openly in the military.
