November 4, 2010 — This week, FSS talks to Dave Powner, the director of information technology management issues at the Government Accountability Office.

In a recent report, Powner’s group compared the cybersecurity information sharing expectations of the government and the private sector. Specifically, the private sector owners of critical infrastructure and the federal agencies with domain jurisdiction or oversight.

GAO found that the government felt its information needs were being met more effectively than the private sector felt its were. So while the voluntary partnership based on cyber information sharing is basically working, there is more work to be done to strengthen trust and information quality it itself.

This is all explored in detail in this week’s interview.
