The speed of light dictates a lot of things in the realm of physics, and now it\'s dictating how and where financial institutions do their trading.

Investing your money in stocks has changed over the years. In the early 80s people held onto stock for an average of 8 months, and by the 90s about 8 minutes. In 2010 it was down to just 20 seconds. Arthur Stein, a certified financial planner with SPC Financial in Rockville, Maryland, explains why federal employees may be at a disadvantage in a high-speed trading world.
