President Barack Obama announced Friday his plans to nominate Joseph Jordan, a former Small Business Administration official, to head the Office of Federal Procurement Policy.
In December, Jordan joined the Office of Management and Budget as a senior adviser to Acting Director Jeffrey Zients, fueling speculation that he might take the the helm at OFPP.
Prior to that, Jordan served as associate administrator for government contracting and business development at SBA, where he oversaw efforts to increase the number of contracts awarded to small business. During his roughly two years at the agency, $100 billion in annual federal contracting dollars went to small business, according to the agency.
Before joining SBA, Jordan served as an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company, a global management-consulting firm. He also worked a two-year stint as a producer for the political talk show “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” beginning in 1998.
Jordan’s nomination, if approved by the Senate, would provide a permanent replacement for former OFPP Administrator Dan Gordon, who announced his resignation last year and stepped down at the end of 2011. Gordon is now the associate dean for government contracts law at the George Washington University Law School. His deputy Leslie Field has served as acting OFPP administrator since the start of the year.
Obama also announced he would nominate Heidi Shyu to be assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology.
Shyu, a former Raytheon executive, has served as the office’s acting assistant secretary since June. Prior to that, she served as the ALT office’s principal deputy. From 1997 to 2010, Shyu held a number of leadership positions at Raytheon, including vice president of technology strategy for space and airborne systems and corporate vice president of technology and research .
Both of the positions require congressional approval.
