Six bills approved by House Veterans Affairs Committee

The bills range from the creation of a veterans job training program to the gun rights of veterans.

The House Veterans Affairs Committee just approved six bills, including an omnibus bill.

The Army Times reports, one of them would create a new veterans job training program.

Another would disallow some types of insurance settlements or court settlements from counting as income that might reduce veterans pensions.

Another proposal doubles the $2,000 monthly pension for living recipients of the Medal of Honor.

The omnibus bill includes a provision aimed at the gun rights of veterans. It would prevent the name of a veteran with a service-connected mental disorder from being included in the FBI database that’s used for screening gun buyers unless a veteran is the subject of a judicial review.

While the bills may have made it through the committee, it is unclear if they will become law. Both the House and Senate have a number of big issues to resolve before pre-election breaks.
