Will $400B in cuts change DoD’s role?

The Defense Department is facing big budget cuts. The Pentagon says Secretary Robert Gates is working on a plan to meet the administration’s goal to cut another $400 billion in national security spending by 2023.

But there is a string attached – Secretary Gates says if DoD’s budget gets cut, its mission will have to be reduced. James Carafano, director of the Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for Foreign Policy Studies at the Heritage Foundation, discusses the possible DoD cuts.
