The Army is testing off-the-shelf iPhones, Androids and tablet computers for use in war. The Wall Street Journal reports, the Army will stress-test a variety of apps that could allow troops to tap digital information from the front lines. Apps like streaming video from a surveillance camera or downloading up-to-the minute information from a remote database. So far the Army has invested about $4.2 million in the development of military apps and smartphone technology.
