2012 is, of course, an election year. But along with a year of political campaigning and partisan wrangling the upcoming election also means many political appointees may head for the exits.

When In Depth with Francis Rose asked experts for their 2012 predictions at the end of last month, Stan Soloway, the president of the Professional Services Council, predicted 2012 would be known as the “year of the acting” — referring to the influx of acting directors, secretaries and administrators that would be ushered in if political appointees step down.

Soloway expanded on that idea, explaining whether he thinks attrition will be worse this year compared to other election years as well as how temporary leadership impacts industry.
