On Sept. 24, 2002, Congress passed the Flight 93 National Memorial Act, establishing a new national park unit to commemorate the 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93 who courageously gave their lives thwarting a planned attack on Washington, D.C. The memorial is located outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and also includes a wall of names and memorial groves. (Tami A. Heilemann NPS)
