OPIC’s Zeppieri changes approach to technology

David Zeppieri joins host Jason Miller to discuss changes at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation since he took over in 2005. October 14, 2010

October 14, 2010 — David Zeppieri has been the chief information officer at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation since 2005 and over the last five years he has seen his role shift dramatically.

Zeppieri, who previously worked at the departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Justice found himself initially in an operational role, taking care of the network and hardware and software requirements.

But now with the infrastructure issues mostly solved through a combination of cloud computing, virtualization, and other leading edge technologies Zeppieri sees his role as more of a business partner to the rest of OPIC.

OPIC has an IT budget for fiscal 2010 of about $7 million and a CIO office’s staff of about 15 federal employees and 30 contractors.

Even with a small budget, Zeppieri has big plans including implementing an Oracle e-business suite of software, finishing the virtualization of its servers and beginning the research to move its e-mail to the cloud.
