The Office of Personnel Management is asking agency Chief Human Capital Officers, and their bosses, to take a second look at Recruitment, Relocation and Retention Incentive programs.
In a memo from OPM Director John Berry, the heads of agencies and executive departments are asked to make sure that those incentives are used only when needed.
They especially want to be sure that only employees who need the funds get the money.
OPM says that in fiscal year 2007, the government spent $127 million alone in retention incentives.
