Think of it as the ‘woman’s touch at war’. The 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine regiment has a not-so-secret weapon in the battle of hearts and minds in southern Afghanistan: an all-female Marine team. The women leathernecks help interact with Afghan women, considered taboo for male marines. The female Marines wear brightly colored neck and head scarves with their camo…as a sign of cultural respect. A similar program takes place in Iraq.
