Obama to delay 2012 budget

The budget will be delayed until after Feb. 14.

President Obama will delay the 2012 budget by about a week with an expected delivery after Feb. 14.

An administration official told Reuters that the delay was due to the long time it took for the Senate to confirm Jack Lew as the new budget director.

Another reason for the delay was the late timing of funding decisions for 2011, Reuters reports.

Obama nominated Lew in July but Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) blocked the nomination over the administration’s ban on offshore oil drilling after the BP oil spill.

The ban was lifted in October and Lew confirmed on Nov. 18.
