The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Washington are closed for Wednesday because of power outages.

Sources at both agencies confirm that the outages are a problem with Pepco.

The General Services Administration’s headquarters building in Washington also is closed because of the power outage.

Greg Romano, a spokesman for GSA, said a large majority of employees from the facility are teleworking until the power issues can be resolved.

The Justice Department’s Management Division also is being affected by the power outage. A spokeswoman said employees are being asked to work in alternative locations or telework.

Pepco told WTOP that at least two underground feeders were damaged.

“With any underground problem, it takes a while to determine what the cause is,” says Pepco spokesman Clay Anderson told WTOP Tuesday night.

One source from ATF said the building closed as of Tuesday at 4 p.m. with an expectation that power would be restored by 8 p.m. that evening. Pepco then moved the schedule to 5 a.m. and now has it at 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

The ATF source, who requested anonymity because they were not approved to speak on behalf of the agency, said employees are encouraged to telework as possible.

One FERC source, who also requested anonymity because they were not approved to speak on behalf of the agency, said they are trying to make arrangements for the agency to continue operating.
