The Government Accountability Office April 3 set up a policy committee to provide advice on implementing electronic health records and other health information technology.
GAO says in a release that the 13-member panel will make “recommendations on creating a policy framework for the development and adoption of a nationwide health IT infrastructure, including standards for the exchange of patient medical information.”
The stimulus bill required the Comptroller General to appoint the panel, each member with a term of three years.
The panel members come with a variety of expertise, including patient groups, physicians or health care providers, vendors, research and privacy and security.
The stimulus bill says the Department of Health and Human Services, and Congressional leaders will appoint another seven members and the President can add members from relevant agencies.
