Former Joint Chiefs Chairman Shalikashvili dies

A former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has passed away. Learn more in today\'s DoD Report.

The former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, retired General John M. Shalikashvili, has died. He was 75. Shalikashvili died of complication from a stroke at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. The general, known has Shali, was the 13th chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He held that job from 1993 until 1997, during the Clinton Administration. He immigrated to the United State from Poland at 16, and is said to have learned English by watching John Wayne movies.
