When children go back to school at Defense Department schools — such as those on military bases — they’ll find a new technology-based curriculum.

Marilee Fitzgerald, the acting director of the department’s Education Activity told The American Forces Press Service that technology has changed the nation, so it’s time to use it to transform schools.

DoD schools are moving away from an education model that calls for all children to be on the same page, learning the same information, all at the same time to a model more focused on a child’s individual needs and learning styles.

The activity is also leveraging virtual technology to further engage students. Other classes will reflect the nation’s emphasis on the importance of emboldening science, technology, engineering and mathematics — or STEM — in education.
