Halvorsen named as acting DoD CIO
Terry Halvorsen, who has served as the Navy Department's chief information officer since 2010, will become the acting DoD CIO next week.
Terry Halvorsen, the Department of the Navy’s chief information officer, will take over as the Defense Department’s acting CIO next week, the Pentagon confirmed Wednesday. 
Robert Work, the deputy secretary of Defense announced the appointment in a memo Thursday afternoon. A Pentagon spokeswoman wasn’t immediately able to say why Halvorsen will take the job in an acting capacity rather than becoming the permanent CIO. In any case, he will take assume the new role effective May 21.
Halvorsen, who has headed up Navy and Marine Corps IT management since November 2010, will replace Teri Takai, who left the DoD CIO position earlier this month. Halvorsen’s appointment was first reported by Politico.
Dave Devries, DoD’s deputy chief information officer for information enterprise, has been serving as acting CIO since Takai departed, and will continue in that position until Halvorsen takes over.
